PENTA Career Center losing 15 staff members to retirement | News
PERRYSBUG, OH (Toledo News Now) – The staff at Penta Career Center in Perrysburg will be losing more than 300 years of combined experience at the end of this school year when 15 staff members retire.
School leaders say the retirements are at least in part due to changes in the retirement benefits those teachers will receive. Teachers who retire by July 1 will receive 2 percent cost of living increases on their pension beginning in 2015. Those retiring after July 1 will have to wait until 2018 to begin seeing those increases.
“I think everyone's talking about it and wondering what the future holds for them,” said Penta teacher Donna Arnold. “After youre looking at 35 years and with the new changes in the retirement system I just felt that it was time.”
Penta has seen staff retirements steadily increase in recent years, with 12 in 2011 and just 10 in 2010.
The retirements will leave open positions at the career center. To apply for those openings, visit http://www.pentacareercenter.org/about/Jobopp.html.
