Owens to host OH vs. MI high school basketball battle July 31 | Community Spirit

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (PRESS RELEASE) – More than 200 of the best high school girls basketball athletes from Ohio and Michigan will converge at Owens Community College to showcase their talents as the Express women’s basketball program serves as host to the nationally recognized Ohio/Michigan High School Basketball Border Battle.
The NCAA certified basketball event will take place July 31 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the college’s Student Health and Activities Center on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township. The basketball games are open to the public.
The first games of the morning session will begin at 9 a.m., while the afternoon session starts at 2 p.m. More than 200 college basketball coaches are expected to be in attendance.
Led by Head Coach Michael Llanas, the Express women’s basketball team finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 25-6 overall record and in second place (10-2) in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference standings. Owens, which was ranked No. 7 in the final NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball poll, lost to Sinclair Community College in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XII Championships.
