Verizon Wireless expanding 4G in Toledo area

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - On May 17, Verizon Wireless is expanding its 4GLTE network to communities surrounding Toledo.

The expanded coverage area around Toledo includes Whitehouse, Monclova, Woodville, Gibsonburg, Holland and the Toledo Airport.

Verizon says the 4G network is up to 10 times faster than 3G. It launched in Toledo in July of 2011 as well as the surrounding communities of Sylvania, Oregon, Maumee, Perrysburg, Waterville and Bowling Green.

It can be used for smart phones as well as broadband Internet access from home.

Blade: Springfield student falls ill, dies

PERRYSBURG, OH (THE BLADE) - An 18-year-old Springfield Local Schools student, who was attending special-needs classes at Perrysburg High School through a Lucas County program, died today after she had a medical crisis at school.

The student was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital after she became sick late this morning at the school and was transported to the hospital, said Springfield Local Schools Superintendent Kathryn Hott.

"She was a real sweet girl," Ms. Hott said. "We are absolutely heartsick for the family."

State hires accounting firm to review solar company's finances

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) - It borrowed millions of taxpayer dollars with promises of job creation, and the state of Ohio says Perrysburg's Willard and Kelsey Solar Group is not living up to those promises or making all of its loan payments.

The state said it has given Willard and Kelsey millions of taxpayer dollars. Now that the company is missing payments and progress reports show it has not created the 400 jobs it promised, the state said it is taking action.

State agency wants finance review of Perrysburg solar company

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Missed loan payments have spurred an Ohio agency to seek a financial review of a solar panel maker whose fired leader accused the company of improperly using state money for loans to its executives.

Officials from Willard & Kelsey Solar Group in Perrysburg have denied those allegations.

Perrysburg residents issued coyote advisory

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) - They are a common sight in the desert or a prairie, but coyotes are becoming more of a common sight in areas such as Perrysburg.

The advisory issued is not intended to scare people to think their lives are in danger. However, Perrysburg Police want people to take some steps as a precaution, due to coyotes being seen in the area, and the threat they pose to small animals such as a pet dog or cat.

Komen seeking nominations for race honorees

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) –The Northwest Ohio Susan G. Koman Foundation is currently accepting nominations for  the "In Celebration" and "In Memory" honors for the 2012 Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. 

The "In Celebration" title honors a survivor whose courage, determination, and strength in the face of breast cancer inspires us all.  The "In Memory" title honors a woman who has been lost to breast cancer.
